Maui Shopping Guide

Besides Maui surf lessons, swimming, sunbathing on the beach, and snorkeling, you probably also have shopping on your top 10 list of things to do in Maui.  And as a one of the top tourist destinations in the world, Maui does have some great shopping centers full of unique gifts, souvenirs, and restaurants. Ka’anapali Whaler’s Village

The Whaler’s Village is just a short walk down Ka’anapali Beach path, near many of the great West Maui resorts. This shopping ‘village’ is home to more than 90 stores that sell everything from rubber slippers to designer handbags. There are a variety of local shops including the ABC Store where you can get beach items, groceries, cosmetics, souvenirs, and local apparel; the Totally Hawaiian Gift Gallery featuring beautiful high quality Hawaiian arts and crafts like hand-sculptured pottery, Koa paddles, and Koa bowls; and Martin & MacArthur, which features fine Koa furniture, jewelry, and home accessories.  The Whaler’s Village also has numerous clothing stores, jewelry stores, and boutiques like Coach and Louis Vuitton. There are several beachfront restaurants in the Whaler’s Village for dinner in a beautiful open air setting. Whaler’s Village also offers regular events and live performances including hula shows, lei making classes, and jazz performances.

Lahaina Front Street

Just down the highway a few miles sits the historic Front Street in Lahaina. With its charming collection of one-of-a-kind boutiques, art galleries, clothing stores, jewelry shops, and restaurants, Front Street is a can’t-miss Maui shopping location.  Near the Lahaina Harbor, Front Street offers the unique ambiance of being a historic whaling village with many historical buildings in the area and the large banyan tree in the town square. In addition to its many art galleries, jewelry stores, and handmade Hawaiian crafts, Front Street has a nice variety of restaurants like the Lahaina Fish Co. where you can eat dinner with an oceanfront view of the sunset. With its charming historical atmosphere that’s uniquely Hawaiian, Front Street makes for a great afternoon of shopping and dining.

The Shops at Wailea

Located in South Maui in the heart of the Wailea Resort area, The Shops at Wailea is the upscale shopping mecca of the southern coast. Featuring world-class designers like Tiffany & Co., Gucci, and Louis Vuitton as well as a variety of art galleries, jewelry stores, clothing retailers like Billabong, GAP, and Roxy, and other specialty gift shops, The Shops at Wailea is a shopaholic’s paradise. The Shops at Wailea also offers regular events including its “Wailea on Wednesdays” (WOW) arts and entertainment series featuring live performances and art gallery receptions.shops at wailea

Paia Boutiques

One of the ‘coolest little towns in Maui,’ the laid-back town of Paia offers a unique assortment of shops, boutiques, and restaurants that have a distinctively Hawaiian flare. Its heritage as a Hawaiian plantation village gives Paia a small-town, authentic Hawaiian charm that many just adore. Located by some of the best windsurfing spots in the world like Ho’okipa Beach, Paia offers a little bit of everything…surrounded by sugar cane. Once named one of “America’s Best Small Towns,” Paia has great local boutiques like Biasa Rose, Mandala Ethnic Arts, and Moonbow Tropics, to name a few. This quaint town also offers a variety of home furnishing stores, health and wellness stores, and salons to spend the day wandering through. After watching some the area’s advanced Maui surfers at Ho’okipa Beach, spend a little time shopping and dining in the charming town of Paia.

Makawao Boutiques

In beautiful Paniolo Country, the small town of Makawao offers a rustic charm and a variety of shops and boutiques with local flare. Makawao is located in Upcountry Maui and holds to its heritage as a ‘paniolo’ (Hawaiian cowboy) town. In this quaint rural town, you’ll find many locally-owned shops that offer products that were made locally as well. These local-item shops include clothing boutiques with one-of-a-kind and custom clothing made in Makawao as well as jewelry, bath and body, home accessories, and gifts made in Maui. If you’re looking for a unique gift or a great place to relax and have fun shopping, Makawao is a wonderful historic ranch town with a lot of personality and style.
